Creating The Right First Impression For Business Success

A friend shared with me the story of a particular woman who was bidding for a life-changing contract.

This woman did a personal assessment of her present status, and came to the conclusion that despite being professionally and experientially qualified for the job, this contract was far beyond her current status. She knew she had to go out of her way to convince the company in her favour. She resolved to do the unthinkable.
Prior to that time, she had been conversing virtually with the company. One of the requirements to finally seal the deal however, is that she had to appear in person to sign all necessary documents.
Now, this woman is one you could call "an average earner" in the casual sense of the word. She had two saloon cars to her name - both bought Nigerian used.
But to win this particular contract, she made a smart and impressive move. On the day fixed to meet the team to finalize discussions, she hired two exotic cars and two Hilux police vans - to serve as her escorts. They all drove in a convoy.
Immediately they drove into the company premises, everything went standstill. The entrance was grand and intimidating. She stepped down from one of the exotic cars with all majesty, exchanged greetings with the company Directors, and in less than 30mins, the deal was finalized.
Her plan worked like magic!
To someone reading this, her approach may appear kind of extreme in a way. You could however domesticate it to suit your own level. Many have lost lots of life-changing opportunities because they played down on the power of first impression.
When it comes to making a unique impression in the context of branding and brand perception, nothing is too extreme. As long as it fits into your budget, you only have one chance to make that singular impression that may alter the course of your life forever.
You may not necessarily have to go the extent this woman went, you should however be very deliberate about how you leave remarkable first impressions all the time. Be aware that people buy first into your person before they buy into your brand.
Therefore, as you make efforts towards growing your brand perception, make sure to carefully invest into how your person is perceived as well.
Bottled water carries higher market value over sachet water. And sachet water is also priced well above "ice-water". Same water, same source, same content, but different packaging.
Dear friend, that unique branding or packaging may just be leverage you need over your competitors. Prayer won't do for you what common sense can achieve.
Sometimes a shirt that sells for 2000 naira by the road side may find its way into a small boutique & sell for as high as 12000 naira!
Rethink your branding and packaging. It may mark the beginning of that breakthrough you've been praying for.
Do you have an experience to share in this light? I'll be waiting to read your comments. Feel free to ask questions too.
Cheers!
Reallionaire.
